The Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Shariah) (Honours) program at the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences (FESS) is the right choice if you have a deep interest in the knowledge of the Quran and Hadith. In addition, we offer a variety of courses ranging from classical fiqh, fiqh-related methodologies, and the application of fiqh in Contemporary Fiqh, Halal Management, Islamic Banking and Finance, as well as Shariah Law in Malaysia.

Innovative Curriculum

The program’s curriculum is designed to equip students with both traditional Islamic knowledge and contemporary skills, ensuring they are prepared for modern challenges in Islamic studies and related fields. Our curriculum focuses on:

  • Core Islamic Knowledge: Students gain a deep understanding of the Quran, Hadith, and Islamic theology, while exploring classical and contemporary Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh).
  • Practical Islamic Applications: The program covers key areas like Islamic finance, halal management, and Shariah law, offering students practical insights into how these principles are applied in today’s world.
  • Contemporary Issues in Islam: Students explore how Islamic teachings address modern global challenges, such as climate change, technology, and social justice.

  • Leadership and Ethics: The program develops leadership skills grounded in Islamic values, preparing graduates to take on roles in governance, community service, and business.

Practical Teaching Experience

The highlight of our program is the focus on practical teaching experience, ensuring students gain hands-on skills in real-world contexts. Through various teaching opportunities, students develop:

  • Classroom Teaching Skills: Students gain experience in planning and delivering lessons, as well as managing classroom dynamics in Islamic studies settings.
  • Community Engagement: Students have the chance to teach and engage with local communities, spreading Islamic knowledge in workshops, talks, or public events.
  • Legal and Ethical Application: Students gain exposure to Islamic legal practices through mock court sessions or internships at Shariah law firms, applying their knowledge in real-life scenarios.
  • Curriculum Development: Students work on designing and implementing Islamic education curricula, enhancing their ability to create effective educational materials.
  • Reflective Practice: Students reflect on their teaching experiences, continuously improving their instructional strategies and approaches.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Our program is accessible to a wide range of applicants, with various pathways for admission:

  • A Pass in STPM with at least a Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in 2 subjects, one of which must be related to Islamic Studies; OR
  • A Pass in STAM with an overall grade of Maqbul; OR
  • A Pass in Diploma (Level 4 KKM) in Islamic Studies or an equivalent field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • A Pass in a Matriculation/Foundation program from any of the four Huffaz Track foundation programs as follows: a) Huffaz Track Foundation in Management; or b) Huffaz Track Foundation in Information Technology; or c) Huffaz Track Foundation in Science; or d) Huffaz Track Foundation in Bachelor of Education (Teaching English as a Second Language) with at least a CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • Other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Malaysian government, with at least 1 credit in any subject.
TUITION FEES
  • Local tuition fee: RM26,445
  • International tuition fee: RM34,800
STUDENT OUTCOMES

Upon graduation, our Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Shariah) (Honours)   graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate understanding of the philosophy, principles, and objectives of Islamic Studies and Shariah as a discipline of study.
  • describe advanced and comprehensive application of Shariah rulings, principles, and techniques in research and analysis.
  • demonstrate relevant practical skills in analysing Shariah issues based on relevant Shariah rulings, principles, and techniques with consideration of the circumstances surrounding the issues.
  • apply adequate interactive skills through the presentation of ideas and solutions based on Shariah principles and Islamic ethics.
  • demonstrate satisfactory Arabic proficiency in comprehending oral texts, writing, speaking, and oral communication.
  • use technology application and media approaches in Shariah-related research and analysis.
  • display competency to execute calculations and statistical analysis in Shariah-related research and analysis.
  • execute, lead and take responsibilities in managerial tasks.
  • apply appropriate skills in collecting information from reliable sources for research, and personal and career development in Shariah related-fields.
  • exhibit satisfactory interest and skills in entrepreneurship for potential career development in Shariah-related fields.
  • demonstrate ability to ethically analyse and perform duty in future Shariah-related professions.

  • Lecturer: Graduates of the Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Shariah) program can pursue a career as a lecturer in higher education institutions, where they can teach and conduct research in Islamic studies, Shariah law, and related fields.
  • Shariah Officer: As a Shariah officer, graduates can work in Islamic financial institutions, government agencies, or religious bodies, ensuring that policies and practices comply with Shariah law.
