Programme Description
The Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health (Hons.) at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) is a comprehensive program designed to equip aspiring professionals with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to excel in occupational safety and health. This program is committed to producing highly qualified safety and health practitioners who can effectively address the diverse needs of workplaces in Malaysia and beyond. It is meticulously designed to meet the professional and academic needs of future safety and health practitioners, emphasizing in-depth knowledge of occupational safety, cutting-edge health methodologies, and practical field experiences.
The program offers a comprehensive curriculum to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to address contemporary workplace safety challenges. It covers four main components as classified by the MQA OSH Standards: basic science, safety, health, management, and legal requirements. Through a comprehensive 24-week field placement in real industrial settings, students gain invaluable hands-on experience in occupational safety contexts. This immersive experience ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the industry.
- Occupational Safety and Health Science: Students learn the basics of occupational safety, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
- Public Health Practices: This field focuses on practical skills like disease prevention, epidemiology, and health promotion while understanding how workplace factors affect employees.
- Risk Assessment and Management: This course teaches students how to assess and manage occupational risks, handle emergencies, and reduce workplace hazards.
- Legislation and Regulations: Covers occupational safety laws and policies, helping students understand legal aspects of workplace safety and health.
- Community Engagement and Advocacy: This course prepares students to work with organizations, raise awareness, and promote safe practices.
- Fieldwork and Practical Training: Offers hands-on experience through fieldwork, monitoring, and inspections to apply knowledge in real-world settings.

- Apply ideas, information, principles, technical knowledge, and regulations related to occupational safety and health at the workplace.
- Assess and analyze issues and conduct research on OSH at the workplace.
- Interpret, analyze, synthesize, and apply evidence-based scientific principles in discussing ideas of preventive and corrective measures in OSH.
- Perform social and professional networking by collaborating, communicating, and managing with industrial community, culture, and environment.
- Demonstrate effective communication in verbal and written forms to all levels of workers at the workplace.
- Utilize digital applications and information management systems to enhance their OSH practices as well as to seek and process data related to work.
