PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours at the Engineering Department, FELS Unisel is a four-year degree programme designed to provide advanced education in engineering that is relevant to the construction industry; providing the required knowledge and skills pertaining to buildings, water resources, infrastructure, highway and transportation, structures, and the environment. Apart from the basic knowledge and skills in civil engineering, students will also undergo industrial training in the third year of their studies, enhancing their professional attitudes toward engineering practices.
In their final year, students will specialize in core areas of civil engineering. Regular industry and project site visits are conducted to expose students to real-world applications in their fields of specialization. Additionally, students must complete a final year project or thesis, which requires them to develop skills in technical writing, research methodology, experimental research, data collection, analysis, and presentation.
Students further enhance their knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes through participations in various competitions and activities at both university and national levels. These events provide the best platform to test and showcase their capabilities and performance. The Civil Engineering Club (CEC) is a student body that represents all Civil Engineering students within the faculty. It actively organizes industrial visits, talks, seminars and charity works involving all the members. It has contributed greatly in facilitating student members to join the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and the Green Card registration from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). Additionally, the CEC organizes cultural activities and religious celebrations, fostering a sense of community among students.
The innovative curriculum of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours program represents a forward-thinking approach to engineering education, going beyond traditional teaching methods. The program has been carefully designed to meet both current industry demands and future engineering challenges in the digital age. This modern curriculum balances fundamental engineering principles with emerging technologies and sustainable practices, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to tackle complex infrastructure projects in an increasingly digitalized construction industry. Our curriculum emphasizes:
Comprehensive Curriculum: The programme’s curriculum is carefully structured over eight semesters (4 years) to provide a solid foundation in engineering. Students focus on basic science, mathematics, and fundamental engineering principles. They are introduced to core civil engineering subjects such as statics and dynamics, fluid mechanics and soil mechanics. In-depth knowledge in specialized areas such as reinforced concrete construction, road construction and environmental engineering are also covered in this program. Overall, the program maintains a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical applications across all years.
Hands-on Learning: The practical component is delivered in state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities. It includes a CAD lab equipped with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, MiLA Structure and other analysis tools. Regular practical exercises ensure that students can apply theoretical concepts to real-world engineering problems.
Industry Exposure: Students benefit from strong links with industry throughout their studies. The industrial training program places students with leading construction companies, engineering firms, or government agencies. Regular site visits to major construction projects provide firsthand insight into construction methods, project management, and safety practices.
Sustainability Focus: Sustainability principles are woven throughout the curriculum rather than being treated as a separate subject. Students learn about green building design standards, renewable materials, energy-efficient construction methods, and environmental impact assessments
Problem-Based Learning Structure: Rather than relying on traditional lecture-only formats, many courses use real-world problem scenarios as teaching tools. Students work on actual engineering challenges from local communities or industry partners, developing solutions while applying theoretical concepts. This approach fosters the development of critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills.
Professional Development: The programme’s accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) ensures that it meets the professional standards required for engineering practice both in Malaysia and internationally. Students receive thorough preparation for obtaining their Professional Engineer (PE) qualification upon graduation.
Comprehensive Support:
UNISEL is committed to providing a supportive learning environment for all students. Our comprehensive support services include:
For International Candidates:
A score of 500 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), 5.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or an equivalent score
Upon graduation, our graduates will be able to:
Lifelong Learning (PLO12): Students able to recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
The profession offers an extensive range of engineering tasks, including design, supervision, and construction activities for public works such as buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, ports, airports, dams, water systems, and sewerage systems. On most projects, civil engineers work in teams or coordinate with other engineering disciplines and professionals. Graduates can find work as site engineers, construction site supervisors, or assume managerial positions in design offices. They may also engage in research or teaching in both government organizations and private firms. Some civil engineers, particularly those working for government agencies, may work across multiple specializations, especially when involved in critical infrastructure development or maintenance.

Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), formerly known as Universiti Industri Selangor was established on 23rd August 1999 and was given an approval under Private Higher Education Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555) on 14 March 2000. We are currently operating at two campuses; the sprawling 1000-acre Main Campus in Bestari Jaya and the City Campus in Shah Alam. Our establishment is in line with the State Government’s intention to make Selangor the leading regional education hub. Selangor plays an active role in the delivery of higher education programmes in order to enhance the development of human capital excellence. As one of the earliest private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, UNISEL is unique as it is Malaysia’s first state-owned university.
