PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Foundation in Islamic Studies program at the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences (FESS) is the right choice  if you have a deep interest in the foundation knowledge of the Islamic Studies. In addition, we offer a variety of courses ranging from Islamic Theology, Shariah and Arabic Languages.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHT

Innovative Curriculum

 

The program’s curriculum is designed to equip students with both traditional Islamic knowledge and contemporary skills, ensuring they are prepared for modern challenges in Islamic studies and related fields. Our curriculum focuses on:

  • Core Islamic Knowledge: Students gain a deep understanding of the Quran, Hadith, and Aqidah, while exploring classical and contemporary Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh).
  • Practical Islamic Applications: The program covers key areas like Basic ICT, Islamic ethics (akhlak) and maharah (Arabic language skills).
  • Contemporary Issues in Islam: Students explore how Islamic teachings address modern global challenges, such as climate change, technology, and social justice.
  • Language and Culture: Students improve their Arabic grammar (Nahu, Sarf & Balaghah), English language proficiency and gain cultural competence.
  • Leadership and Ethics: The program develops leadership skills grounded in co-curriculum.

Diverse Language Offerings

Recognizing the importance of multilingualism in today’s globalized world, UNISEL offers a variety of language courses, including Arabic, Mandarin and English Language. These courses enhance students’ intercultural competence and broaden their linguistic repertoire.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Our program is accessible to a wide range of applicants, with various pathways for admission:

 

  • A Pass in SPM with minimum of FIVE (5) credit include Bahasa Malaysia and credit in Islamic Studies subjects or Arabic Language subjects; OR
  • Other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Malaysian government.
TUITION FEES
  • Local tuition fee: RM9,000
  • International tuition fee: RM18,000
STUDENT OUTCOMES

Upon graduation, our Foundation in Islamic Studies graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate understanding of the philosophy, principles, and objectives of Islamic Studies as a discipline of study.
  • describe comprehensive application of Islamic Studies rulings, principles, and techniques.
  • demonstrate relevant practical skills in Islamic Studies issues based on relevant Islamic Studies rulings, principles, and techniques with consideration of the circumstances surrounding the issues.
  • apply adequate interactive skills through the presentation of ideas and solutions based on Islamic Studies principles and ethics.
  • demonstrate satisfactory Arabic proficiency in comprehending oral texts, writing, speaking, and oral communication.
  • use technology application and media approaches in Islamic Studies related research and analysis.
  • execute, lead and take responsibilities in managerial tasks.
  • apply appropriate skills in collecting information from reliable sources for research, and personal and career development in Islamic Studies related fields.
  • exhibit satisfactory interest and skills in entrepreneurship for potential career development in Islamic Studies related fields.
  • demonstrate ability to ethically analyse and perform duty in future Islamic Studies related professions.

Our graduates are well-prepared for a wide range of rewarding careers, including:

 

  • Lecturer: Graduates of the Foundation in Islamic Studies program can pursue a career as a lecturer in higher education institutions, where they can teach and conduct research in Islamic studies, Shariah law, and related fields.
  • Shariah Officer: As a Shariah officer, graduates can work in Islamic financial institutions, government agencies, or religious bodies, ensuring that policies and practices comply with Shariah law.
  • Consultant: Graduates can also become consultants, providing expert advice on Islamic law, halal certification, and Shariah compliance to businesses, particularly in sectors such as finance, food, and tourism.
  • Administrative Officer: With the right skills and knowledge, graduates can work as administrative officers in government or private sectors, managing policies related to Islamic affairs and ensuring the implementation of Shariah-compliant practices.
