FOUNDATION IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Foundation in Information Technology programme is exclusively designed for fresh school leavers as the beginning of their successful educational journey. The programme’s main objectives are to provide students with a solid understanding of fundamental IT concepts, including computer systems, programming, and networking, while fostering analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. It prepares students for advanced studies in IT-related fields, emphasizing mathematical reasoning, software development principles, and digital literacy. The programme also focuses on professional readiness by developing teamwork, communication, and ethical awareness, ensuring students can navigate the societal impacts of technology. Additionally, it encourages adaptability, lifelong learning, and personal growth, laying a strong foundation for both academic success and entry-level roles in the IT industry. Students must complete 50 credit hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.00. The programme operates in the UNISEL Bestari Jaya Campus.

AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME

  • To provide students with a comprehensive understanding in IT principles and practices.
  • To develop problem solving and analytical skills in IT.
  • To prepare students for undergraduate studies with fundamental skills and knowledge in IT field with enhancement of lifelong learning and generic skills.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Open to all local and international students with the requirements below:

  • Passed Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia – SPM)/O-Level with a minimum of 5 credits in any subject including Mathematics; OR
  • Passed UEC with at least B Grade in any 3 subjects including Mathematics; OR
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian Government.
TUITION FEES
  • Local tuition fee: RM7,680
  • International tuition fee: RM12,060
  • FREE tuition fees – Foundation programme scholarship (Biasiswa Program Asas)
STUDENT OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:

  • Acquire fundamental knowledge in IT and disciplines of computing.
  • Apply comprehensive technical skills to solve problems using critical thinking skills.
  • Work and communicate effectively in teams and address ethical value related issues.
  • Demonstrate proficient computational skills in application and programming.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to higher level of education and lifelong learning.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Many students who complete the Foundation in Information Technology programme pursue a Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Multimedia or other computing-related studies. Graduates with IT study would have a wide range of careers such as Software Developer, Data Analyst, or IT Manager. Additionally, graduates can explore freelancing in web development or IT support, venture into entrepreneurship by starting tech-related businesses, or transition into emerging tech fields like blockchain, IoT, or cloud computing with additional upskilling. The programme also equips them with adaptable skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for a dynamic and technology-driven career landscape. With foundational knowledge in programming and digital tools, graduates can pursue opportunities in web development, digital marketing, or data entry, supporting businesses in their online presence and operations.
