PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Library Management program at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) is meticulously designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and advanced skills required to excel as professionals in managing modern libraries and information centres. This program refers to procedures within a library and the management of the libraries dealing with identification, gathering, handling, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information resources. Library Management is an interdisciplinary field that applies the practices, perspectives, and tools of management, information technology, education, and other areas related to library operations.

COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM

Covers a wide range of topics including library automation, digital resource management, cataloguing and classification, research methodology, and information retrieval systems to develop well-rounded library professionals. Our curriculum emphasizes:

  • Library Automation and Digital Resource Management –Focuses on implementing and managing automated library systems and digital platforms to streamline library operations, improve user access, and manage electronic resources effectively.
  • Cataloging and Classification –Covers in-depth knowledge of organizing and managing information resources using globally recognized standards like MARC, RDA, and Dewey Decimal Classification to ensure efficient information retrieval.
  • Report Writing in Library Management –Provides training in conducting academic and professional research, including data collection, analysis, and reporting, to support evidence-based practices in library management.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • Passed in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent, with at least 3credits, and a pass in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics; OR
  • Passed in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in any subject and a pass in Mathematics; or Additional Mathematics at SPM level OR
  • Passed in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul and a pass in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics at SPM level; OR
  • A Certificate or its equivalent in any discipline and a pass in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics at SPM level; OR
  • A pass in Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 and a pass SPM with a minimum of 1 credit and a pass in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics. OR
  • Passed in UEC with minimum Grade B in 3 subjects and pass in English subject.
TUITION FEES
  • Local tuition fee: RM20,290
  • International tuition fee: RM37,705
